Pittock Mansion

We took a hike to the Pittock Mansion. The Pittocks were the owners of the Oregonian newspaper at the turn of the last century. This home was built for the Pittocks and their children (and the spouses and grandchildren), and 2 nieces that were orphaned. Our hike was about 2 miles to the mansion and 2 miles back to the car through a very beautiful forest. The mansion was built in 1914. Henry and his wife only got to live in the home for 5 years until they both passed away. Georgiana was already in a wheelchair by the time she moved into the mansion, so her husband had an elevator built into the mansion. He also made sure that her sink in her bathroom was tall enough so that she did not have to bend over to have her hair washed. What a nice, thoughtful husband. Of course, as you will see later, he indulged himself in his bathroom as well!

We made it to the top!
Here is the view of Mt. Hood from the Pittock Mansion grounds.

Out of order and a little blurry, but here is Dylan carrying Ezra up the last part of the trail. It gets pretty steep near the end.

Beautiful Summer enjoying the hike!

One side of the twin staircases leading to the 3rd floor.

This is the ceiling of the smoking room-- so beautiful, especially considering what the room was used for.

This was the nursery room. Look at the cute toys.

The stove and oven. So neat!

Here is the music room.

Here is Henry's Master Bathroom shower. It sprays down from above, the sides, and even up from the floor. Pretty high tech for the early 1900s.

Jarom by a tree.

And Ezra by a tree with his good hiking legs on!

Mom is LOVING the freedom of no longer managing the apartments. We have been having a lot of fun in our new home-- which I promise I will take pictures of soon, and taking adventures like blueberry picking, hiking, to the river, and the pool, and just having fun!
