Crazy!

My crazy friend, Melissa Christensen, talked me into doing an all women's novice triathlon on Saturday at Blue Lake park. Her philosophy going into it was that she was not in it to win it, just to finish. The event started with a 1/4 mile swim in Blue Lake. We swam around big, inflated buoys. The water was surprisingly very warm. I was quite relieved and proud to say that I swam in a straight line to each buoy.

Next we jumped on our bikes and rode what seemed like FOREVER. When
I looked across the freeway and saw the IKEA sign (next to the airport) I knew I really had ridden my bike FOREVER-- and that was only to the turn around. The way back seemed shorter.

Then came the 5K run. Having just ridden my bike 12 miles, it was hard to get my legs to work in a different motion. I felt like I was having that dream where you are running with all your might and not getting anywhere. Well, our legs loosened up and we were able to jog the majority of the 5K. Melissa stuck with me the whole time. I am certain I slowed her down at time, but perhaps me singing the theme song from "Rocky" helped motivate her a bit.

Here we are running near the finish line. Melissa's kids are running next to her outside the race track, cheering all the way.

Almost there!!

Just around the corner!!

Finished!!! Just under 2 hours. Not the fastest, but trip completed!! And, I am happy to say, that I am not sore today.
I can't say that I am looking forward to another race, but I am pretty proud of the fact that I completed a triathlon.

Good for you, girl. I've always wanted to do a tri-athalon (or even an iron man).
